If the transmission will not go into gear and the clutch pedal is loose, it generally means a failure in either the clutch master or slave cylinder.. Slipping gears: your transmission is supposed to stay in one gear until you shift (with a manual transmission) or the computer does it for you (with an automatic transmission). if the transmission is slipping in or out of gear without any effort on your part in a manual, or sliding into neutral in an automatic, you need to get to a mechanic. Sometimes the vehicle will not go into gear properly, which means there is a problem somewhere between the stick shift and the out-put drive line. low lubricant an automotive manual transmission uses a special high viscosity gear oil, unlike that in the crankcase..
I have a 1995 4.0 4x4 ford ranger with a manual transmission and it does the exact same thing with it not going back into gear after running for a little bit. it will go into gear if the truck is rolling but when i stop at a light i have to keep the clutch in because if i don't then it becomes difficult to get back into gear.. If your transmission cannot be put into gear when the car is running but you can change gears with the engine off, the problem could be with your pressure plate or clutch disk. your clutch disk should be checked every 15,000 miles (or less if you engage in stop and go, city driving)..
